Chad Gates, CPA, is a senior manager in the tax department. He joined the firm in 2015 and works primarily with clients in the dental, professional service, real estate, restaurant and hospitality industries. His specialties include tax planning, compliance, entity structure and partnership transactions. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from BGSU in 2015, and then a master’s in accountancy degree in 2016. Chad is a member of both the AICPA and OSCPA, serves on the board of directors at Court Diagnostics and Treatment Center in Toledo, Ohio.

Why did you join William Vaughan Company?

I met members of the team at BGSU’s fall job fair and saw they were using a tax software I was already familiar with. I started as an intern for two “busy seasons” and really enjoyed it, then ended up taking a full-time position after graduation.

What are you most passionate about in your work?

I enjoy working on partnership and S-Corp returns as well as helping my clients with creative tax planning strategies.

What has been your most rewarding client experience?

Partnering with clients that are starting or buying their first business and helping them grow the business and achieve their goals.

The people and culture, which sounds cliché, but until you experience it here you really can’t describe it.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love golfing, cooking, playing guitar, traveling, and spending time with my wife and dog.

What’s a fun fact few would know about you?

Despite playing guitar for over 20 years, I cannot read a single note of music.
